Summary

Vampires aren't real, right?

People say I'm a weirdo。 Sure, my idea of a party is a mini box of wine and hanging out with a feral raccoon, but it works for me。

When I’m accused of murder, things get crazy。 One, I learn that I have magic。 Two, there’s a secret magical city hidden right in London itself。 And three, my only hope is a vampire who’s sexy as sin and scary as the devil himself。 He's called the Devil of Darkvale, and he all but owns Guild City。

Some say I should just quit and turn myself in。 Not a chance。 I’m going to solve this murder myself, which means surviving in a new world of witch parties, magical guilds, and a vampire with a tortured past。 The vampire and I are like colliding stars, and the heat is irresistible。 I should avoid him, but if I want to save my own life, he’s my only hope。

This book randomly showed in my Goodreads recommendations and I decided to give it a try。 I was pleasantly surprised。★ Non-stop action。☆ Good pacing。★ Nicely developed characters。☆ Liked the main heroine and the friends he acquired in this first part。★ The world is diverse and intriguing。 So far, my favorites are witches with their crooked tower and constant parties。 :DLooking forward to the next book。 <3

Great bookI’m usually weary of spin offs but I really enjoyed this。 I like how it had some depth and character mystery and wasn’t all about the love story。

Definitely a supernatural mystery book。 I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a supernatural PI。 3。5 stars if that was an actual rating I can give on here。 I enjoyed it because I like supernatural fated mate style books but I have a few concerns that I believe some people would agree with。 As usual here's the good news first,The actual mystery was interesting, the Witches are my kind of people, I mean "We are the daughters of the witched you could not Burn" if that doesn't explain read the boo Definitely a supernatural mystery book。 I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a supernatural PI。 3。5 stars if that was an actual rating I can give on here。 I enjoyed it because I like supernatural fated mate style books but I have a few concerns that I believe some people would agree with。 As usual here's the good news first,The actual mystery was interesting, the Witches are my kind of people, I mean "We are the daughters of the witched you could not Burn" if that doesn't explain read the book, the party alone should explainthe world that Lindsey created was fun and the ending was a bit intriguing even if a little predictable,(Of course Carrow is powerful and special) but WTF is up with that rock? And what the heck is the flipping curse and why is her racoon so weird? Is that magically normal weird or actually weird, weird? I need to know!Again the story is obviously interesting and fun enough that I gave it 4 instead of 3 even though I'm in the middle。 Now here are my complaints and explanations as to why。。。It's annoying that Carrow feels an attraction to a guy who she thinks killed her best friend, I just don't see her having room to recognize that feeling when anger and fear should be stronger more overwhelming emotions。 To realize there's an attraction after realizing he's not guilty and actually on her side would be more acceptable。 It would also make a more dramatic realization like she finds out and then he gets closer or is doing something giving her a reason or chance to look closer now that her guard is lower, just to be like of shit he's more than scary and grumpy he's also hot, who knew。 Idk that'd make more sense to me。 I Wish there was a bit more character exploration, the premise of the characters is interesting and fun, I like the friends and think Mac is the shit but don't think there's enough info about her, she's just the facilitator of the magic world for Carrow but why? She's cool so why Carrow? You know? I think there should have been an aha moment when Mac sees Carrow in her depth, actually recognizes her as a deeply good person who just needs friends and decides she's her bestie now。 There sort of is but I feel like there should have been more tension and depth to the moment, I mean Mac basically decides Carrow is here sister now, that's some deep shit, and it was brushed into a yeah carrow is important because she is the mc so it makes sense for complete strangers to become what amounts to family over the span of a minute。 That level of love and dedication means something and it should show。 There's just not a lot of depth to the side stories。 It's all about the main pair which I get but your MCs friends and relationships make the world you're creating more realistic。 I also feel like Carrow didn't interact with Quinn enough to make his jealousy and protective reactions realistic。 If Quinn had become real friends with her if they even actually flirted and if he had a chance to see her depth of character and personality shine thus giving him a reason to not only genuinely like her but believe he could have a chance。。。 then it would make more sense for him to be jealous of her interactions with The Devil it would make more sense for him to want more。 As for The Devil he obviously wants her because she's special and the fated thing whatever I get that。 He feels the draw。 Whatever, he finds her amusing even when she's not and finds her special even when she's shown no sign to him off being so。 Fated mates。 Whatever, I get it。 It doesn't bug me as much as the side relationships for an unknown reasonAs i said this book was good but I have some complaints that's why 3。5 stars, would I read it again? Maybe。 If the answer to that had been no I would be more inclined to give it 3 stars, but alas I would probably read it again because as I said at the beginning。。。I actually enjoyed it。 。。。more

DNF at 40%。 Pretty solid start with humour and action… then it just got boring。 Instant friend, best powers possible, most powerful person wants you。 Meh。 Not bad, but not great。

3。5 stars。 This book was very enjoyable, but I have a big caveat。 It’s super light, fluffy reading and the plot, magic, and world building are very loose, shallow, and flimsy。 But even though there were a lot of unrealistic parts (insta-best-friendship is only one example and not the worst offender), I still enjoyed it for what it was。 And it was entertaining。 I could rip it apart with lots of questions, but I don’t want to look that closely and ruin it。So I’m giving it 3。5 stars for pure romant 3。5 stars。 This book was very enjoyable, but I have a big caveat。 It’s super light, fluffy reading and the plot, magic, and world building are very loose, shallow, and flimsy。 But even though there were a lot of unrealistic parts (insta-best-friendship is only one example and not the worst offender), I still enjoyed it for what it was。 And it was entertaining。 I could rip it apart with lots of questions, but I don’t want to look that closely and ruin it。So I’m giving it 3。5 stars for pure romantic fantasy entertainment value, not for being a masterpiece of fantasy literature。I am positive that some people won’t be able to enjoy it, and I won’t recommend it to ultra-discerning readers。 But, regardless of what it says about me, I enjoyed it。 It was that romance- I’m a sucker for good chemistry! :) The plot wrapped up nicely without a cliffhanger, but the romance hasn’t culminated。 I’ll read book 2 and hope the romance can pull it through again, like it did with this installment。Content:Language- a LOT of hells, damns, sh-, b- and a- words。 But never the f- word。 So thank you for that, Linsey Hall。 Much appreciated。Sex- innuendo。 One sensual kiss and one sensual vampire bite。 No sex。Violence- yes, opening scene has a murder victim that has had his head bashed in。 Yikes。 One cadaver scene and organs, etc。 Substance Abuse- the main characters get trashed on magical potions and a drug called Ambrosia at a witch’s party。 Thankfully they didn’t do something totally stupid and annoying during this scene。 They decided to take something that brought them back to sobriety before they left the party。 No lasting harm done, thankfully。 (Also, no hangover nor any negative consequences。) Still, not my favorite plot point。 Also, lots of casual drinking。Cover - okay。I read this on Kindle Unlimited。How I rated the series:Once Bitten - 3。5 starsWicked Deal - 3 starsDark Secrets - 2。5 starsDevilish Game - skimmed Cursed Mate - skimmed 。。。more

Enjoyable, but there’s nothing original about this book: not plot, not characters, not magical world, nothing。 Hell, there’s even a Leaky Cauldron and a Diagon Alley。 The exception may be born and mortal vampires。 And Cordelia。 (She’s my favorite。) The writing and characters aren’t good enough to make up for it。

Great read!A nice mystery, tied to both the mundane & magical worlds。 A cast of very interesting characters。 Definite sequel tension。 I really enjoyed this book & am excited to start the next! I decided to go back to the beginning of the Shadow Guild universe after picking up another further down the line。 It's an interesting prospect because even just that one revealed a few secrets that are being kept in this one。 That said, this was very much along the lines of what I expected so this is likely to be something of a plough-through (as I'm having fun with them, at least so far)。I knew the worldbuilding would be light going in and that helped a bit, at least with expectations。 This on I decided to go back to the beginning of the Shadow Guild universe after picking up another further down the line。 It's an interesting prospect because even just that one revealed a few secrets that are being kept in this one。 That said, this was very much along the lines of what I expected so this is likely to be something of a plough-through (as I'm having fun with them, at least so far)。I knew the worldbuilding would be light going in and that helped a bit, at least with expectations。 This one starts in the mundane world and it's basically only the strength of Carrow that held my interest。 She's in something of a tough spot because she's a bit stupid about revealing things to the police when she figures out that a murder is about to happen。 Well, she finally gets there before they do and is caught at the scene。 And arrested and, eventually, on the run with a manhunt out for her。 Which is when she stumbles onto "Guild City" the magical city within London。Yes, that's all very ridiculous and I don't care。 I told you the worldbuilding was light, right? There you go。 What held me was the friendships and relationships, even though they're all pretty fast。 I didn't care that Mac attached to her nearly instantly because their conversations were fun and she was such a great intro into the magical world。And again, the plot held together and the mystery was compelling。 And Devil, the male protagonist for this chunk of the series, wasn't nearly as bad as he could have been and had a few stand-out moments along the way。So yeah, light and I definitely don't recommend this to anyone who wants to take their UF seriously。 But it is entertaining and I'm going to read more of them because I have a personal weakness, apparently。 Four stars, all of them for taking, and holding, my interest。A note about Chaste: Despite being all interested and stuff, Carrow and Devil aren't anywhere near a place where they'd be anything like intimate, even just physically。 So there's an almost kiss and a stimulating neck-bite (vampire, you expected that to happen, right?) so it's pretty chaste, I think。 。。。more

Loved it。 Fun。 Loved the world and the protagonists 'can do' attitude。 The ending was sort of anti-climactic and it didn't make sense that the hero thought she could fight because the history of her being a fighter wasn't there, I thought it was weird that she liked to solve things with her fists, it seemed like she could have been a bit more imaginative than that。 Especially when glammed up。。。 Instead of using the glam she decided to punch someone。。。 I don't like destined mates, it makes it all Loved it。 Fun。 Loved the world and the protagonists 'can do' attitude。 The ending was sort of anti-climactic and it didn't make sense that the hero thought she could fight because the history of her being a fighter wasn't there, I thought it was weird that she liked to solve things with her fists, it seemed like she could have been a bit more imaginative than that。 Especially when glammed up。。。 Instead of using the glam she decided to punch someone。。。 I don't like destined mates, it makes it all too obvious。。。 But if they were in this world of seers and magic it's unlikely they wouldn't have destiny。Enjoyed it。 。。。more

I have to say this author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine for paranormal suspense/romance。 In the last series I read from her (yes I read out of order) I was missing a little more heat between the two main characters。 This book had 1 major concern for me。 I’m just not a huge fan of vampires。 The whole immortal, bloodlust just doesn’t do it for me。 The devil though, I’m intrigued by him。 By his conflicting emotions and actions regarding Carrow。 Then there was Carrow having no idea about th I have to say this author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine for paranormal suspense/romance。 In the last series I read from her (yes I read out of order) I was missing a little more heat between the two main characters。 This book had 1 major concern for me。 I’m just not a huge fan of vampires。 The whole immortal, bloodlust just doesn’t do it for me。 The devil though, I’m intrigued by him。 By his conflicting emotions and actions regarding Carrow。 Then there was Carrow having no idea about the magical world。 I love the world this author has created。 There is so much to it yet I don’t feel overwhelmed when reading it。 This world has been well thought out and written in such a way it makes me wish I could be there! 。。。more
